Senator Norbèrt N. “Norby” Chabert was born and raised on Bayou Petite Caillou in southern Terrebonne Parish. He is a proud graduate of South Terrebonne High School and Nicholls State University and holds a degree in Political Science.
In the fall of 2009, Norby was elected to fill the unexpired two-year term in Louisiana Senate District 20, which comprises the majority of both Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes. He served with distinction for the constitutionally allowed three consecutive terms until 2020, highlighted by his being appointed Vice-Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee after only 2 years of service.
He was a 10-year member of the Natural Resources Committee & Judiciary B from 2010 to 2020. He served on Senate Finance and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget for 8 years from 2012 to 2020.
As a native of the bayou region, Norby is passionate about Coastal Restoration and Flood Protection. He proudly served as a 10-year member of the Select Committee on Coastal Restoration and Flood Control and a 4-year member of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority.
During his time in office, Norby served as Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee from 2016 to 2020, Chairman of the Select Committee on Vocational and Technical Education from 2010 to 2015, and Vice Chairman of Senate Finance from 2012 to 2015.
Norby had the distinction of serving as one of two statutorial Senate appointees to the State Board of Commerce and Industry; the state’s consitutional authority on applications for tax incentive programs including enterprise zone, industrial tax exemption, quality jobs, and restoration tax abatement.
Norby brings a combined 20 years of business and governmental affairs experience to ClaitorChabert. He has been a political consultant, a business development professional in the oil & gas industry, an agent for New York Life Insurance Company, and most recently Vice President for the New Orleans office of Marsh, USA; a Marsh & McLennan Company, and the world’s largest commercial insurance brokerage firm.
Senator Chabert remains an active member of his community and has not met a charity cook-off competition that he does not think he can win!
Having helped defined an era of Louisiana history from a governmental capacity, Dan and Norby were still passionate about political endeavors when their Senate terms expired in 2020. Together they created ClaitorChabert, a full-service political consulting firm, where they utilize their combined knowledge and experience to continue serving the people of Louisiana.
